Friends of Chalfont St Giles Library
Friends of Chalfont St Giles Library was formed in 1999 following concerns that cuts in Bucks County Council funding could lead to the closure of the village library. Thankfully that threat has receded.
The aims of the organisation are to support the library service in Chalfont St Giles by:
-
Advising on any aspect of the service
-
Encouraging use of the service by local residents
-
Acting, as required, as advocates of the service
-
Providing volunteer assistance to augment the service provided by Bucks County Council
-
Arranging events and activities relating to the library service, or of wider interest
-
Pursuing funding and/or sponsorship for additional library services or facilities.
-
The Friends hold regular meetings and events, with visiting speakers (often well-known authors), visits to places of literary interest, and to events of a literary flavour.
There is a thriving Reading Group, which meets every few weeks to discuss books selected by the group members. Volunteers from the Friends hold regular "story hours" in the library for under 5's.
The Friends part-funded (with Chiltern District Council) the experimental opening of the library on Tuesday mornings, which has lead to an adjustment in opening hours.
Further information can be obtained from the Library. To join, send a cheque to the Treasurer, Mrs Sam Patel, Copse Edge, Dodds Lane, Chalfont St Giles, HP8 4EL, made payable to "Friends of Chalfont St Giles Library"
