60+ Fitness and Social Club

Every Friday 2-4  - £3.00 per session, including a cup of tea.

At the Scout Hall, Silver Hill, Chalfont St Giles.

(Transport is available from Threehouseholds.)

We are as of April 2021 in our 15th year and going from strength to strength, in more than one way.

On most Fridays we now have the max numbers we can accommodate. Our exercises are becoming more demanding and even include press ups. However, Rita always makes sure that the not so "bendable people" do some easier exercises. It is all good fun and we laugh a lot. We also offer Thai Chi twice a month for the second hour and after a cup of tea. The gaming is going well with table tennis and netball being the most popular but perhaps the serious "scrabblers" might disagree. The card games are also popular. If we get a good summer we will do some of our exercises in the playing field.

As we are affiliated to the Bucks 50+ we are taking our obligation of looking after the older people in our village, seriously. Two years ago we were instrumental in getting the stile free path to Chalfont St Peter opened. This is one of the few path in Bucks which is suitable for disabled motor scooters. We are continuing to ask Bucks CC to replace stiles with gates. This not only makes it easier for walkers but mothers with pushchair can also use many more path now than they could some years ago. I am also campaigning for more drop curves in the village for wheelchair users etc.

Members of our club now lead the "Simply Walks" every Wednesday from 10am for approximately 1 1/2 hours. We meet at the village green and usually there are 20 plus walkers ranging from 8-80+ years. All our leaders have 1st Aid training.

We have also worked with Chalfont St Peter to clean up the Misbourne. Unfortunately no other people from the village are prepared to help with this very hard work.

We are very active in campaigning for a better bus service through the village and Seer Green.

We were instrumental in getting the green bus shelter by the Pheasant bus stop. We also paid half towards the bench on the other side near the red bus stop Unfortunately the Parish Council did not allow us to put it insided the bus stop.

Buses along London Road run approx. every hour.

There is more that can be done to improve the lives of old and young in our village and we in the 60+ will do our bit.
